While the "mavens" of entertaining may like the idea of a big production, here at Guy's we know that lots of time, effort, and fuss are simply not necessary for a great get-together. Whatever the occasion - tailgating, family reunion, potluck or backyard barbecue - with a little help from Guy's it's easy to gather with some of your favorite people for a laid-back good time.
Guy's Tips for Entertaining
- When you serve dips as part of a buffet table, don't forget the spoon.
- In a pinch? Ranch salad dressing doubles as a dip right out of the bottle. Just pour it into a bowl and you're good to go.
- Need a vase for a flower arrangement? Skip the crystal. Instead simply dig up an old glass bottle or jar from your basement. They lend character to your table, and can even spark conversation.
- If you need to keep food hot, consider making a circle of bricks and placing a can of sterno or a small candle in the middle (use a trivet or piece of tile to protect your table). Then just place the dish on top of the bricks.
- Paper and plastic are great, but not always the most attractive presentation. For just a few bucks, you can dress up your table by stashing your paper plates, plastic ware and napkins in baskets.
- If you're using plastic cups, don't forget the magic marker to help guests identify their beverages. Encourage guests to not only write their names, but also even decorate their cups - and those guests who fall asleep on the couch.
- Eating outside? Don't forget to secure your tablecloth and any other lightweight items. You'll also want to be sure candles are secure. No one enjoys an unplanned bonfire.
- Pre-cut fruits and vegetables can really cut back on the time required to prepare for a party. Just don't serve them in their plastic containers and no one will know.
